a poem: my cement home

There’s a crack in the wall

Light streams in

The cement walls that surround me

Become brighter

I can see it

The world I was locked away from

The world I locked myself away from

Brighter than ever

The crack grows

The light pushes it’s way into every corner

There’s no where to go

Except outside

I take my first steps

The sun warms my skin

I’m free

I made it

I broke out of my own confines

Oh why did I lock myself up?

Why did I lock myself away from such a world?

Then I remember

The clouds cast a shadow on everything that was once bright

I forgot

The world is a dark place

The demons have come to greet me

I scurry back inside

And seal myself up

I’m better off in here

In my cement home
